'The Speaking Picture Book'
An antique 19th Century children's book with animal noises

An excellent example of the rare 'Speaking Picture Book - A Special Book With Picture, Rhyme And Sound For Little People'. 
 
Produced in Germany in the late 19th century, this book is an 18th edition, with all but one (The Cuckoo) of the nine animal sounds still being audible.
 
There are 9 coloured plates with verse on the opposite pages which include arrows indicating the relevant cord to be pulled for the sounds. The majority of the space inside the book is taken up by the compartment in which the mechanisms produce the sounds. 
 
The attractively coloured and debossed cover is in very good condition with some age related minor wear mainly around the edges. 
 
The pages display some minor foxing and several have detached from the spine as shown, but all are present and otherwise in very good shape. All pull finials appear to be the originals except for one, which is a different shape and protrudes out further than the others.
